  20. And please don't forget the machine that did it first and was
  21. sometimes called a personal computer.  The TRS-80 Color Computer,
  22. intro'd in 81?  by Tandy, grew to a full 64k of ram before it got its
  23. first case facelift.  That in turn allowed a Des Moines Iowa company
  24. called MicroWare to port their GMX operating system, OS-9, to the
  25. "CoCo" as it became named.  Then in 85, a new version was intro'd
  26. that had as part of its graphic chip, a DAT (Data Address Translator)
  27. that allowed memory of be paged in and out of the 64k cpu space in 8k
  28. chunks.  A limitation of that chip, since fixed by aftermarketeers,
  29. was a maximum of 512k of memory.  The full version can have 2 megs.

  31. This machine is more like a unix box than the miggy can ever be
  32. unless the opsys is redone to make full use of the MMU by default.
  33. The current version of the opsys OS-9, is nearly as bulletproof as
  34. UNIX is!  You've heard folks say they crashed a unix socket but never
  35. unix.  Its quite rare, and usually a stack manipulation error by me
  36. when I manage to crash my CoCo.

  38. How do I know?  Easy, theres one sitting on the next desk, and its
  39. the one I do all my programming on. If I have something usable on the
  40. miggy, it gets null modemed over and SAS/C has at it. But I gave up
  41. publishing those utils because I can't find any of my previous
  42. uploads anyplace on aminet.  I should have at least 5 steadily
  43. improving versions of my print formatter in the text/print path.
